Availability : Daily 6a to 11p including weekends and holidays
Summary : Responsible for assisting the Store Director with day-to-day operations of the entire store, and assumes responsibilities of the Store Director when absent.
Oversees and interacts with subordinate supervisors in all departments of the store. Serves as a model for customer service and provides direction and instruction to all store associates.
Assists in coordination of sales promotions and directs associates in the store merchandising. Responsible for interviewing entry level staff as well as appraisal and performance management.
The Assistant Store Director is required to assist customers and maintains complaint resolution as needed with a positive demeanor.
This position requires adhering to all procedural guidelines set by Metcalfes Market. This position requires working mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays, based on department staffing requirements.
Essential Duties : Monitors and controls all costs and expenses, including maintenance of ordering and inventory control, ensuring proper weighing procedures, controlling shrink, and monitoring displays. Manages the entry level store staff including interviewing, hiring, and training, scheduling, coaching, and required performance reviews;
ensures staff is trained on all policies and procedures. Oversees shift operations including writing and / or approving department work schedules. Maintains a safe work environment for employees, vendors and customers. Monitors and addresses customer issues or questions. Orders merchandise, prepares requisitions to replenish on hand merchandise. Receives, inspects and logs products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality. Monitors the rotation of all grocery products paying particular attention to expired stock and discarding outdated or expired items. Manages departments inventory control ensuring no out-of-stocks and / or over-stocks. Handles inventory tasks as required. Sustains a high level of product knowledge and product preparation. Works toward continuous quality improvement. Stays current with changing company technology, including software programs. Leads, coaches, teaches and reinforces Metcalfes culture, customer service, and performance expectations to all employees. Upholds, supports and promotes all company policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities : The Assistant Store Director shares supervisory responsibility for all store departments or as assigned, including approximately three (3) direct reports.
Qualifications : High School diploma / equivalent required, Associates degree (A.A.) or technical school training preferred. Two to four years experience as an Assistant Store Manager in a supermarket or large retail chain. Thorough knowledge of the retail food business, thorough knowledge of perishable department operations, merchandising skills, must be able to make timely and effective decisions. Background as a product specialist desirable. Ability to work well under pressure and in a diverse, fast-paced and stressful. Must have strong people management skills. Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to handle a diverse crew in a stressful environment. environment. Knowledge of technology, the use of a computer, and Microsoft Office- More specifically, Outlook, Word and Excel.
